    Two brothers from two of Europe’s premier orchestras come to Musicfest.  Vienna Philharmonic violinist Christoph Koncz (Musicfest ‘13) along with his brother, Stephan, a cellist with the famed Berlin Philharmonic, join with pianist Bryan Wallick to perform Beethoven’s outstanding “Triple Concerto.” The evening’s second half is filled with the glorious sounds of the brilliant Festival Orchestra paired with the massive sounds of the largest pipe organ in Arizona (5,067 pipes!).  Experience this exciting collaboration when the evening’s full forces, under the direction of Maestro Robert Moody, perform Saint-Saens’ triumphant Organ Symphony.

    Among the finest violinists of her generation, Midori, an artist celebrated for her “plush tone, myriad-colorings and command” (New York Times) joins the Arizona Musicfest Festival Orchestra to perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.  The evening also showcases the Festival Orchestra, comprised of musicians from the nation’s finest orchestras, performing Shostakovich’s monumental 10th Symphony.

    Arizona Musicfest closes out its treasured Festival Orchestra Week by performing Mendelssohn’s dramatic Symphony No. 4(“Italian”), a masterwork that conjures images of Italy’s abundant countryside and lively cities, as well as Leoncavallo’sPagliacci, one of the most iconic Italian operas of all time.Pagliacci (Clowns) is a one-act drama filled with passion, intrigue, and tragedy, as well as lush choral scenes and one of the most famous arias of all time, Vesti la giubba. The performance will feature stars from the famed Metropolitan Opera, including Carl Tanner and Gordon Hawkins, along with the Arizona Musicfest Festival Chorus.
